Two major, mega-crowd drawer events happened in Singapore last Saturday night. The first one was the Christmas Light-up at Orchard Road and the second one was the Utsav Deepavali Street Parade at Little India. Deciding which one to attend was a no-brainer – the latter only happens one night a year while the former, well, Christmas lights should be on at least until the 25th of December, shouldn’t they? So Utsav it was for us and the wifey.

Utsav is a Sanskrit word for festival. It also means delight, merriment and pleasure. And the street parade was indeed all that and more! It was a dazzling extravaganza of colors and cultural diversity! I took a ton of photos and I have selected 26 for your viewing pleasure. Please do leave a comment and let me know which one is your favorite. Enjoy!

A word of congratulations is clearly in order for the organizers of the Utsav Deepavali Street Parade 2012 for an orderly yet intense and exhilarating street parade experience – the Little India Heritage Association and the Hindu Endowment Board!

Bravo also to all the performers!

  1. My favorite is the fourth one – the one with dancers in line. A close second is the smiling woman in purple. šŸ™‚ By the way, I love the new look and layout of your blog! šŸ™‚

  2. Thanks Claire! I had a front-seat view of the performances which is why I was able to take some shots which were really close to the performers. I don’t have those powerful lenses yet. And yay, you noticed the new look too! Thank you God for WordPress! šŸ™‚
